What is a Pool Compliance Certificate & Do I need it?

As per VBA, from 1 December 2019, all swimming pools and spas capable of containing water to a depth greater than 300 mm (30 cm) must have a compliant safety barrier to restrict access to the pool area by young children (under the age of five).

How to prepare for an inspection?

Once you have your pool registered with the nearest council and you have now applied for a pool inspection there are certain things that you can check from your end to ensure an easy certification process.

Here is the list of questions that you can go through as those would be thrown at you by the inspection officer as well when it comes to checking the compliance of the pool.

• Are safety barriers like fencing near and easily accessible from the pool?
• Whether the pool gates open outwards or inwards?
• Is the pool gate self closing and does it have an automatic latch device attached to it?
• Does the pool have any climbable accessories close to it ?
• Are the barriers rigid and strong enough to handle the daily wear and tear?
• Do I have an active water recirculation and filtration system for the pool?

The list can go on & on, you can also go through the details while getting ready for an inspection. Remember self assessment is helpful in order to make the process smooth. This can save a lot of time and also decreases the chances of getting a non compliance certificate from the inspector.

Do not worry even after being prepared for the inspection if your pool is non compliant, you get a chance to get the work done as described by the pool inspector in order to make the pool compliant. So whenever the date is decided, the pool Inspector will visit and check again if the work has been done and the pool is compliant or not. Even after 60 days and re-inspection if the pool is found to have done some work, the pool inspector can grant an additional 7 days in order to carry out the remaining work as well.
